Pride Family Medicine

I have found it hard to find a good doctor that makes you feel comfortable and safe. Pride Family Medicine clearly has your comfort and feeling of safety in mind. I’m one of those people who sometimes starts to pass out when I get blood drawn. It hasn’t happened in a minute, but it happened at my last visit. I got embarrassed and apologetic. The Pride Family Medicine staff were kind, caring, and made me feel better about what happened. Other places I’ve walked out of feeling upset and uncomfortable. Pride Family Medicine continues to prove why they are my number one doctor recommendation. Seriously, if you’re in the market for a new PCP or just need to see someone, this is the place. There is so much more I could talk about than this one situation, but I wanted to highlight how much better my day was because of how they handled this insecurity of mine.

Honestly Pride Family Medicine offers some of the most negligent care I've ever received from a PCP. They consistently fail to follow-through on referrals, send referrals to out-of-network providers, and seem to intentionally drag their feet in responding to patient needs. We've all got enough trauma dealing with the medical industrial complex, and Pride Family Medicine seems not to care in the slightest. There are plenty of more competent and caring places near Austin with "LGBTQ+ Allies." From my (and my loved ones') experience, they don't even meet basic standards of care, much less "Affirming Healthcare." If you're considering Pride Family Medicine as your primary care, go somewhere else.

I recently became a patient of Dr. Risa Curtis. I would like this note to be shared with the owner of Pride Family Medicine and any potential investors. In a world where complaints are plenty, I would like to provide feedback that for the excellent care and treatment I have received from Dr. Curtis. My wife and I have been searching for a primary care physician who not only excelled in their field and speciality, but also showcased genuine compassion while serving others, valued deepening patient education, empowered patients to be active participants in their health care, and provided recognition of the various physical and mental health concerns that widely plague female-identified individuals of color who also identify as Queer. In a world where many historically marginalized groups of color are cast to the side, it brings tears to my eyes to note that my wife and I have become patients of Dr. Curtis through Pride Family Medicine. Dr. Curtis has completely embodied all of the qualities we have spent the last 12 years searching for. I’m the short 4 weeks, under her care she has provided me with the comfort and confidence to continually advocate for the care I need and affirmed me as I struggle with my health. I have quite literally visited Pride Medicine 5 times in the last 4 weeks, because of the sudden turn in my health. Each time I call, Dr. Curtis listens with empathy and meets me with expert medical knowledge, especially as a OB/GYN, that gives me guidance and reassurance that I am in the right hands. Pride Family Medicine was recommended to my wife and I through an Austin non-profit called Black Queer Women Alliance, and they were confident that Dr. Curtis would be able to assist the ailments I have been dealing with, while never being dismissive or arrogant about the lack of knowledge often associated with being a non-medical person. Thank you Pride Family, for your existence and for your superior selection of Dr. Risa Curtis as an in-house OB/GYN, at a time where female & gender affirming care for individuals of color are continually threatened and widely undervalued. Dr. Curtis represents what we need more of in the medical world, moreover her commitment to the care and comfort of her patients aids in increasing the quality of life for Queer identified individuals in North Austin/Cedar Park. We may not have nearly as many resources in this area of Central Texas, as downtown/South Austin, but Dr. Curtis makes up for that. I will absolutely be recommending all of my chosen family (especially those that identify as LGBTQIA+2S) throughout Central Texas to seek medical attention through Dr. Curtis at Pride Family Medicine. Thank you, Dr. Curtis, for the impact you have on the community is truly amazing and I hope you continue to have great success at Pride Family Medicine.
